What is a graphics card?
A graphics card is a device inside a computer that displays image clarity, color, and overall graphical information on a display.
Simply put, a graphics card is a connector between a CPU and a monitor. That means nothing will come to your computer monitor except the graphics card.
Now a question may come to your mind, if your computer does not have a graphics card, then how is your computer running?
Although I will discuss this below, I will give you a few ideas. Graphics cards are of two types, namely, external graphics cards and built-in graphics cards.
All motherboards currently on the market have built-in graphics, so low-budget PCs do not require any additional graphics cards.

Why a graphics card is needed and why it is used?
If you look at the low-budget PCs in the market, you will find that they focus on CPU, RAM, and STORAGE instead of graphics cards.
For low-budget PCs, even if you don’t have a graphics card, you can build an “integrated graphics processor / IGP”. Relying on IGP alone is not a bad thing. This is the case in most offices, schools/colleges.
But if you are a die-hard gamer or content creator, then a graphics card is essential for you.
Modern graphics cards (whether high-performance video cards or IGPs) manage 2d and 3d content display, drawing desktops, decoding and encoding video content of programs and games.
These video cards are commonly called GPUs (Graphics Processing Units). However, it is better known as the graphics card. Founder Edison GPUs are the most consistent and strong performers, but the design is somewhat conservative.
And third-party companies (Asus, EVGA, MSI, Gigabyte, Sapphire, XFX, and Zotac) launch modifications from the founders, such as cooling fan design, overclocking, and LED mood illumination. Some board-partners-founders release both the Edison and modified versions.

Graphics cards are basically divided into two parts based on the work-
- Consumer card-gaming and light content creation.
- Dedicated cards- professional workstations, scientific computing, calculations, and artificial intelligence works.
Two types of cards are used for the above two types of work-
- In the case of consumer cards – Nvidia’s GeForce and AMD’s Radeon RX series.
- In the case of Pro workstations – Nvidia’s Titan / Quadro and AMD’s Radeon Pro and Radeon Instinct series.
Currently, Nvidia is influencing both types of markets. But first, we look at the consumer market.
In 2021, Nvidia is divided into two sub-brands – GeForce GTX and GeForce RTX. And AMD has the Radeon RX and Radeon RX Vega families (though now almost extinct) and the Radeon VII (which are nowhere to be found except in the pages of history).
Things to keep in mind about graphics cards –
Resolution and Monitor: Current minimum power cards can also display 3640 to 2160 pixels (4K) programs. But in the case of high-performance games, it is not possible to give a good framerate performance with this card.
Video-card positions in games, geometry, and lighting, and transforms images in real-time. Therefore, the more detailed images and resolution of the monitor in the games, the more powerful the graphics card is required.
The resolution currently used by gamers is 1080p (1920 by 1080p), 1440p (2560 by 1440p), and 2160p or 4K (3840p by 2160p). In a word, the graphics card should be bought according to the highest supported resolution of the monitor.
High-Refresh Gaming: For many years 60Hz monitors had a panel-refresh ceiling, but now high-refresh gaming is 144Hz, 240Hz, even 360Hz but smooth performance on the monitor. Most gamers don’t bother with extreme refresh rates, but high-refresh rates are an advantage over fast-action and competitive games.
HDR Compatibility: Graphics card has to be selected keeping in mind the capabilities of HDR. While this is not a very useful feature for many gamers, HDR is very important visually.
Free-Sync vs. G-Sync: free-sync is AMD and G-Sync is Nvidia, both adaptive sync tech has been used. If not, the game’s screen shows half.
Now that we know a lot about graphics cards, let’s take a look at some of the comparative key factors between Nvidia and AMD.
Clock Speed: Clock speed determines how fast the core of a graphics card works. And the higher the score, the higher the speed. If the GPU is the same, the clock speed can be differentiated.
For example, GTX-3080 base clock-1,710MHz but RTX-3080 base clock-1,815MHz. However, the base clock and the graphics boost clock are completely different. Boost clock manages to temporarily increase the speed when there is extra pressure on the graphics (keeping the thermal condition under control). It depends on the cooling system. The better the cooling capacity on that board.
Understanding Onboard Video-Card Memory: How much video memory is on the card is also an important issue. However, the amount of memory that a card usually holds is predetermined.
For example, boards built for 1,080p games will not support 4 / 6GB RAM, while boards for 1,440p / 2,160p / 4K games will support 8GB or more of RAM.
The wrinkles: Some boards have less GPU but more support for VRAM, which makes the price of the board a little higher than the regular version. Therefore, VFX, 3D programming, modeling, video editing is given more importance in VRAM than boost clock speed in national work

Many people may think that I am talking about buying a graphics card but why didn’t I talk about memory first?
You see, more or less we all have a misconception that “the more memory graphics cards I buy, the higher the performance will be.”
But that is not the case at all. The key here is bandwidth. The main fun of a graphics card is the bandwidth. The higher the DDR on your graphics card, the higher its bandwidth.
One thing to note here is that the DDR of the graphics card has nothing to do with the DDR RAM in your CPU.
How fast the GPU can access memory is basically a matter of bandwidth. The higher the bandwidth of the card, the faster the data exchange rate between the cores will increase. And the faster the data is delivered, the better and smoother your games and videos will be.
There are two things to keep in mind when it comes to bandwidth.
- Clock speed
- Bus Speed or Width
Remember, DDR5 RAM has twice the performance of DDR3 RAM at the same clock rate. So DDR5 of 1GB RAM is much better than 4GB of DDR3 RAM.
Graphics card memory is not storage, it is basically RAM. As discussed above, the higher the DDR of your card, the higher the efficiency of your CPU.
Bandwidth is more important than the amount of RAM or memory on the card. So, more memory means more performance.
You need to select the memory of your card based on how you work.
The main function of a shader core is to render images. It has a huge impact on bandwidth. Shader cores basically work with 3D objects.
Each company names the shader core one by one –
- Nvidia = CUDA Colors
- AMD = Stream Processors
The more shader cores your card has the greater its image processing capability.
Many people say that it is better to buy a normal CPU and attach a good graphics card and work with it. But the main thing is to get a good output of a good quality graphics card, your CPU must be of good quality.
Suppose, if your CPU is Celeron, Pentium, or dual-core, then buying a more expensive graphics card there is nothing but a waste of money.

However, if your dual-core CPU is of the update generation. In other words, if it is Dual Core 7 Generation, then a good quality graphics card can be installed there. However, I would suggest you use at least a Core I series CPU for the graphics cards.
Cooler option (heat sink and cooling fan)
In fact, there is not much to say about this. This is because almost all the companies in the market at present use good quality cooling systems in their graphics cards. However, there are some companies that do not put the option of the cooler fans on the card to give a graphics card at a lower price. Which, of course, made the video an overnight sensation.
This is because if the card does not have a good cooling system while operating any high-performance software or game, it can become extremely hot.
